Job Description

Summary: The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support the research portfolio of the Center for Deployment Psychology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. The role involves conducting research related to military mental health and contributing to various scholarly works while developing skills for independent research. Responsibilities: - Manage elements of ongoing projects, ensuring compliance with good practice in relation to the conduct of research, and institutional ethics policies - Conducts on-site data collection and site visits in support of study aims - Maintains effective and timely communication with scientific collaborators; serves as a representative of the Center and in this capacity, demonstrates strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills - Undertake high quality research and scholarship, including contributing to drafting major grant proposals and/or leading the drafting of smaller grant proposals related to military mental health - Develop and author scientific reports for scholarly dissemination at professional meetings and in peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations - Further the CDP mission by contributing additional scholarly works such as blogs, podcasts, and/or white papers - May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role Required Qualifications: - Doctoral degree in Psychology, Behavioral Health, or a related field - 0-5 years experience required - Knowledge of behavioral health and/or public health research design and methodology, including experience with survey development - Familiarity with dissemination and implementation science frameworks or methods - Familiarity with human subjects research requirements and ability to assist with IRB submissions and related regulatory documentation under supervision - Foundational knowledge of statistical analysis methods and experience using at least one major statistical software package (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS, Stata) - Experience contributing to scholarly products, including peer-reviewed manuscripts, reports, or conference presentations - Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare scientific manuscripts, reports, white papers, and professional presentations - Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet research deadlines - Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a multidisciplinary research team - US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/ Secret security clearance required Preferred Qualifications: - Experience working with electronic medical record data preferred but not required - Familiarity with Department of Defense or Military Health System data systems is strongly preferred but not required - Experience conducting secondary analyses of large medical or administrative datasets preferred but not required - 1–2 first-author peer-reviewed publications are preferred but not required - Prior experience supporting grant proposal development or large, multi-site research projects, preferred but not required - Experience supervising or coordinating research staff or trainees, preferred but not required Required Skills: Behavioral health research, Statistical analysis, Survey development Important Skills: Grant proposal development, Peer-reviewed publications Nice-to-Have Skills: Communication skills, Organizational skills, Team collaboration Benefits: HJF offers a comprehensive suite of benefits focused on your health and well-being, from medical, dental, and vision coverage to health savings and retirement plans, and more.
