Job Description

Summary: The Texas Department of Transportation is providing an opportunity for students to gain valuable, paid, hands-on experience through their Year-Round Internship Program. The role involves assisting in transportation engineering support work, including construction inspection, data collection, and document preparation. Responsibilities: - Develops spreadsheets, databases, and other electronic documents - Performs data entry and computer-aided analysis - Processes various construction-related documents and maintains construction project records - Uses drafting equipment and performs hand or computer-aided drafting and calculating work - Performs other job responsibilities as assigned - Prepares required worksheets and inspection reports Required Qualifications: - Must be enrolled in an engineering or related science degree program in an accredited college or university accepted by TX PELS - High School / Entry Summer in recommended high school plan - Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school - Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools - Maintaining a safe working relationship - Using basic mathematical fundamentals - Collecting, sorting and compiling data - Preparing correspondence/documents using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation; proofreading and reviewing documents for clarity and consistency - Using standard office equipment - Preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files and reports - Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems - Follow verbal and written instructions - Perform data entry - Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures - This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical - Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions - Required to work hours other than 8 to 5 - Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements Required Skills: Data collection, Computer-aided drafting Important Skills: Spreadsheet development, Data entry Nice-to-Have Skills: Mathematical fundamentals, Document preparation, Office equipment usage, Following instructions Benefits: Retirement Plans, Alternative and/or Flexible Work Schedules, Paid Leave and Holidays, Health Premiums paid at 100% for Full-Time Employees, On-the-Job Training, Tuition Assistance Program, Holistic Wellness Program with Leave Incentives, Career Development and Advancement Opportunities, Family-Friendly Policies and Programs
