Internship (Outpatient Mental Health Clinics- Gaithersburg) 2026-2027 Counseling/Social Work Fieldwork

Summary: Sheppard Pratt is offering a part-time internship for BSW students at their outpatient mental health clinic in Gaithersburg, MD. The internship provides hands-on experience in clinic operations, client enrollment, and exposure to clinical interventions. Responsibilities: - Support clients in the clinic enrollment process, assisting them with the completion of consents, releases, advanced directives, screening assessment, insurance authorizations, among other intake tasks - Assist with the formation of treatment groups, referral for medication management, and where appropriate shadow a diagnostic assessment or therapy session - Help with outside referral for complementary services, and participate in case conferences, meetings, and all staff trainings Required Qualifications: - The student must be available to assist in-person at the OMHC for the majority of their internship hours Required Skills: Client relationship development Important Skills: Mental health treatment knowledge, Documentation skills Nice-to-Have Skills: Team collaboration, Communication skills
