Paralegal

Summary: Oswego County is seeking a Paralegal to join their Social Services Department. The role involves applying legal procedures, conducting legal research, and preparing and reviewing legal documents without requiring the skills of an attorney. Responsibilities: - Perform a variety of tasks that, while not requiring the skills of an attorney, entail the application of legal procedures and legal research as well as the preparation and review of legal documents Required Qualifications: - Possession of an associate's degree or higher in paralegal/legal studies - Possession of an associate's degree or higher and one (1) year of experience as a paralegal, legal assistant or in a position where job duties include the preparation of cases for criminal, family court, or support court - Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and three (3) years of experience as a paralegal, legal assistant or in a position where job duties include the preparation of cases for criminal, family court, or support court - Possession of a paralegal certificate from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university can be substituted for one (1) year of required experience - Possession of a Juris Doctor in Law equates to 'A' above Required Skills: Paralegal certificate, Legal research, Preparation of legal documents Important Skills: Associate's degree in legal studies Nice-to-Have Skills: Experience in family court, Experience in criminal court, Experience in support court Benefits: Health, Life, Dental and vision insurance, NYS Retirement, Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, Paid holidays, Sick and annual leave, Employee Assistance Program, Tuition reimbursement (for related courses while employed), Optional pre-tax retirement plan, Optional pre-tax spending plan (FSA)
