Job Description
Summary: The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies in North Carolina, responsible for safeguarding and supervising adults sentenced for violating laws. The Criminal Justice Hiring Specialist is tasked with processing applicants for certified positions, conducting thorough reviews of applicant information, and ensuring eligibility for employment in certified roles.
Responsibilities:
- Processing applicants for certified positions assigned to the PTREO service area
- Conducting a thorough review of applicant information, including employment application, previous employment and certification documentation, criminal background check, court and military documentation
- Assigning and proctoring pre-employment testing and contacting medical vendors as needed
- Consulting with managers and subject matter experts on complex issues and responding to a wide variety of questions from applicants and work location managers
- Conducting hiring approvals, obtaining start dates and required information from work locations
- Conducting salary administration for entry level certified positions and maintaining applicant hiring records in the Applicant Tracking System (ATS), WorkDay (WD), and other internal databases
- Ensuring critical vacancies are filled in a timely manner
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's degree, typically in Human Resources or relevant field from an appropriately accredited institution and 1 year of experience required; or 2 years of progressive experience in Human Resources; or equivalent combination or education and experience
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of Criminal Justice and DAC policies and procedures
- Fingerprint technician and DCI Operator certification
- Notary Public appointment
- Ability to run, read, and interpret a thorough DCI criminal background check
- Ability to conduct a thorough review of applicant information, including but not limited to the employment application, previous employment and certification documentation, criminal background check, court and military documentation and other records, as applicable
- Ability to assign and proctor pre-employment testing and contact medical vendors as needed
- Ability to consult with managers and subject matter experts on complex issues and respond to a wide variety of questions from applicants and work location managers
- Ability to conduct salary administration for entry level certified positions and maintain applicant hiring records in the Applicant Tracking System (ATS), WorkDay (WD), and other internal databases
- Ability to manage high volume work and meet deadlines to ensure critical vacancies are filled in a timely manner
- Ability to travel overnight and work overtime as needed
