Job Description
Summary: Meta is seeking a Research Scientist Intern to take novel organic materials from concept through to the device level, focusing on the fundamentals of material behavior during growth. The role involves developing next-generation optoelectronic materials and collaborating with the Meta Reality Labs Research team to address challenges in the AR/VR space.
Responsibilities:
- Develop the next generation of optoelectronic materials with an emphasis on advanced design, growth, and analysis, to prove new concepts and understand the potential impact of those concepts
- Collaborate with the larger Meta Reality Labs Research team to holistically understand current goals, limitations, and bottlenecks in the wider AR/VR space
- Design and explore novel crystal growth/processing techniques, with a focus on highly specific components and devices
- Publish research results and contribute to research that can be applied to Meta product development
Required Qualifications:
- Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Optical Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or relevant technical field
- Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
- 2+ years experience in at least one of the following areas: chemistry, materials, organic materials, crystallization / solid state analysis, optoelectrical materials
- 2+ years experience with solid-state analysis: e.g. diffuse reflectance, XRD, spectroscopy, DSC
- 2+ years experience with conducting experimental laboratory work (i.e., demonstrated ability to take concepts, adapt them and translate them to the bench-top)
- Intent to return to a degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at relevant high-impact journals
- Experience with the CCDC suite of software and other such as (e.g. BGMN, Profex, Olex2)
- Experience with Rietveld refinement
- Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment
