Job Description
Summary: Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a technician to work with a group of scientists in the Center for Radiological Research. The role involves studying high throughput protein assays to measure biomarkers and the immune response in blood cells after x-ray exposure.
Responsibilities:
- Follow protocols carefully under the supervision of the Pl and other team members
- Perform protein quantification in blood samples; prepare solutions; setup and calibrate equipment; and carry out fully planned experiments
- Receiving calls from potential blood donor volunteers; posting flyers for recruitment
- Reaching out to potential blood donor volunteers to plan a time for recruitment and blood collection
- Collect samples and keep records of results
- Assist with ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies
- Perform other related duties as assigned and/or necessary to the functioning of the laboratory
Required Qualifications:
- Requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, immunology, biochemistry or related science or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Must have general knowledge of biology, protein assays and cell biology
Preferred Qualifications:
- Some laboratory experience is preferred, especially familiarity with cell culture techniques and biological assays
